Geographical Scope1.Geographical Scope

APNEK is a locally established organization that developed and grew an NGO with a national profile. She has, from the start, been interested in global themes and issues as well as with the problems specific to Kairouan and to Tunisia. She is now held high in esteem and much heard locally as well as in the Euromediterranean, African, Arab environmental and developmental spheres, besides UN Institutions: Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP/UNEP), Mediterranean Commission for Sustainable Development, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Executive Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (CCD), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). She has recently been granted Special Consultative Status by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations.

Though the field projects APNEK implemented are located in the Kairouan area, all her important activities had either a national and/or an international character and involvement. In fact, in 1990 was organized a national conference on trees and urban spaces; in June 1992 she was actively present in the Rio NGO Global Forum, and in December of the same year was organized an international scientific camp on the natural environment of Kairouan; in March 1996 was held an interantional workshop Partners Against Desertification (see Publications).
